Asia Markets: Asian stocks trade mixed; Toshiba takes a hit over loss report

Asian shares were a mixed bag on Tuesday as some trading resumed after the Christmas holidays, albeit on thin volumes.

Japan’s Nikkei Stock Average NIK, +0.03% fluctuated, opening lower but recently trading flat as the yen weakened against the U.S. dollar. Korea’s Kospi SEU, +0.22% was up 0.2%, the Shanghai Composite Index SHCOMP, -0.25% was 0.3% lower and Singapore’s FTSE Straits index was flat.

Markets in Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong were closed.

Among early losses in Tokyo stocks, Toshiba Corp.
