Why Obama’s ‘We the People’ online petitions were a missed opportunity for U.S. consumers

Americans have made some important requests to U.S. President Barack Obama during his administration, including concerns about health care, veterans’ and military issues, disease awareness and immigration. Apparently they have also spent time asking him to appear on HBO shows and to deport pop star Justin Bieber.

The White House’s online petitioning system, “We the People,” has accepted direct requests since 2011. This week, the Pew Research Center, a nonpartisan think tank in Washington, released an analysis of the past five years of those requests: While about half of the petitions related to human or civil rights issues, it found, there were also some bizarre petitions, such as a petition for the U.S.
