The Wall Street Journal: Arizona planning to sue Theranos for fraud

A state regulator is preparing to file the first government lawsuit against embattled Theranos Inc., alleging the blood-testing firm defrauded consumers.

In a document seeking bids from an outside law firm, the Arizona Attorney General alleged that Theranos engaged in a “long-running scheme of deceptive acts” that harmed residents of the state.

A spokeswoman for the Arizona Attorney General, Mark Brnovich, said the agency couldn’t comment on “any potential ongoing consumer-fraud investigations.” Theranos declined to comment.

The state said it began its probe began after articles in The Wall Street Journal raised questions about Theranos’s technology and operations, a person familiar with the matter said.
