WASHINGTON—The Chicago Cubs waited 108 years to win the World Series last year — and then raced to the White House to celebrate with the president who called their city home.

President Barack Obama welcomed the team to the White House Monday, four days before President-elect Donald Trump takes office. The team stood behind the former Chicago resident in a ceremony in the East Room attended by a few hundred people, many of them Cubs fans who worked in Mr.
