The Wall Street Journal: Mexican drug lord ‘El Chapo’ extradited to U.S.

MEXICO CITY — The drug lord who escaped twice from Mexican prisons, Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, was extradited Thursday to the U.S., where he faces multiple charges in several jurisdictions, the Mexican government said Thursday.

Guzmán faces charges in courts in Illinois, New York, Texas and California for crimes including drug trafficking, homicide and money laundering.

Authorities plan to put him on trial in Brooklyn federal court in New York City, which is one of the most secure federal courthouses in the country, according to people familiar with the discussions. These people said the talks to finally get Guzmán on U.S.
