Earnings Outlook: ConocoPhillips earnings: Where will the company go next?

ConocoPhillips is scheduled to report fourth-quarter results before the bell Thursday.

Wall Street is expecting another loss for ConocoPhillips COP, +2.70% but slightly higher production numbers quarter-on-quarter.

The company has shed assets and scaled back its global footprint, and Wall Street will want to know what it intends to do with the proceeds of the sales, said Brian Youngberg, an analyst with Edward Jones.

Any plans for potential acquisitions are also likely to be a focus, particularly whether ConocoPhillips intends to grow its presence on West Texas’ Permian Basin, he said.

ConocoPhillips’ results will come on the heels of disappointing earnings for Chevron Corp.
