Judge Neil Gorsuch: 7 things to know about the Supreme Court nominee

Judge Neil Gorsuch was nominated to the U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday night during a prime-time announcement by President Donald Trump. The high court has had an empty seat for nearly a year, since Justice Antonin Scalia died last February.

“Judge Gorsuch has outstanding legal skills, a brilliant mind, tremendous discipline and has earned bipartisan support,” Trump said at the White House ceremony. “It is an extraordinary resume — as good as it gets.”

Fittingly, Gorsuch, 49, who sits on Denver’s 10th Circuit Court of Appeals, is a conservative said to be of the same ideological mold as Scalia, though with a much more easygoing personality, in contrast to the oftentimes combative Scalia.
