The Wall Street Journal: ‘Profligate’ Johnny Depp spent $3 million to blast Hunter S. Thompson’s ashes from a cannon, lawsuit claims

LOS ANGELES—Johnny Depp’s financial problems are the result of his own overspending and failure to heed warnings, his former business managers claimed in a countersuit filed against the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star Tuesday.

The complaint was filed in Los Angeles Superior Court by the Management Firm, run by brothers Joel and Rob Mandel. Alleging breach of contract and fraud, they claim that Depp lived a “selfish, reckless and irresponsible lifestyle” that cost $2 million a month.

Depp spent more than $75 million to buy and furnish 14 residences, including his 45-acre French village, and a chain of islands in the Bahamas, as well as $18 million to buy and renovate a 150-foot luxury yacht, the complaint claims.
