The Ratings Game: Facebook still loved by analysts who see dollar signs in video

Facebook is on an upward track with its “video first” plan.

That was the early consensus reaction from analysts, who began lifting their price targets after the social networking company knocked it out of the park with sharply higher fourth-quarter earnings and sales late Wednesday.

Facebook FB, +2.23% shares shot up 3% in late trading Wednesday, fueled by a 53% jump in quarterly ad revenue. That march higher for the technology stock may well resume in regular trading Thursday, given the positive reaction from analysts.

Outside of the better-than-expected results, analysts were encouraged by the potential for advertising revenue from Facebook’s push into video.
