Earnings Outlook: Coca-Cola earnings: Here’s what is concerning analysts

Coca-Cola Co. is scheduled to report fourth-quarter results on Thursday, before the market opens, with Wall Street analysts expecting the beverage giant to suffer a seventh straight quarter of year-over-year profit and sales declines.

Of particular concern for some analysts is the recent weakness in beverage sales at convenience stores (C-store). Wells Fargo analyst Bonnie Herzog said fourth-quarter C-store sales were up 4.1% from a year ago, but that was “significantly below recent trends,” and comes off “exceptional growth” of 8% last year, partly resulting from “significantly lower” promotions. Herzog said she estimates that beverage promotions were up 0.1% during the fourth quarter, down from 0.6% growth in the third quarter and from a 1.2% rise in the second quarter.
