London Markets: FTSE 100 gains ground with strength in miners

U.K. stocks moved higher Tuesday, with Rio Tinto PLC among the advancers, but BP PLC shares pushed lower after some disappointing financial figures from the oil heavyweight.

The FTSE 100 UKX, +0.54% was up 0.2% at 7,186.05, with all sectors but oil and gas moving higher. The benchmark on Monday dipped 0.2%, edging back from a two-week high.

Many British blue chips were seeing gains on the back of a fall in the pound. Sterling GBPUSD, -0.7138% traded at $1.2364, down from $1.2460 late Monday.

At the bottom of the index was BP PLC
