Metals Stocks: Gold struggles to hold three-month high as dollar gains

Gold futures gained modestly Tuesday, holding near the roughly three-month settlement high scored in the previous session, even as a major dollar index also gained.

April gold GCJ7, +0.02% rose $1, or just less than 0.1%, to $1,233.20 an ounce and has moved in positive and negative territory so far on the day. Gold settled at $1,232.10 an ounce Monday. Tracking the most-active contracts, that was the highest close since Nov. 10, according to FactSet data.

Gold is up more than 7% in the year to date, while the ICE U.S. Dollar Index DXY, +0.66% up some 0.7% Tuesday, has fallen around 2% so far this year.
