Outside the Box: Trump’s ‘phenomenal’ tax plan raises stakes for Corporate America

One of the hallmarks of Donald Trump’s theme of “America First” is the need to restore lost jobs in manufacturing owing to unfair foreign competition. But since assuming office, President Trump has focused attention on another group — namely, U.S. auto companies and other businesses that have outsourced jobs abroad.

Trump’s tactic has been to use both the carrot — his pledge to lower the U.S. corporate tax rate to 15%, and the stick — his threat to impose duties on items U.S. companies import from affiliates outside of the U.S.

By doing so, the president has upped the ante on companies that are planning to locate facilities abroad.
