Trump is playing a starring role on U.S. companies’ quarterly conference calls

Fifty-two percent — that’s the proportion of S&P companies that have fielded questions about President Donald Trump or his administration in their fourth-quarter earnings calls, according to data provider FactSet.

FactSet searched call transcripts for the 317 companies among the S&P 500 SPX, +0.40% that had reported earnings as of Feb. 10 and found that uncertainty surrounding Trump’s policies or proposed policies featured prominently. “Rarely has the corporate outlook in America been so influenced by politics,” is how the Economist described it.

The most mentioned topic is tax policy, followed by regulation and trade, according to FactSet.
