The Wall Street Journal: Ex-Hong Kong leader gets 20 months in prison for misconduct

HONG KONG — Former Hong Kong leader Donald Tsang has been sentenced for 20 months in prison after he was found guilty of misconduct, becoming the most senior official ever in the former British colony to be sent to jail.

Speaking outside the court after the sentencing on Wednesday, Tsang’s wife, Selina Tsang, said she was ‘disappointed and very sad’ about the outcome and said an appeal would be coming.

After a six-week trial, a nine-person Jury on Friday found Tsang, 72, guilty of one count of misconduct in public office. Tsang was convicted for failing to disclose to his cabinet when he was in office that he leased a three-story penthouse in Shenzhen from a businessman, who was a major shareholder of a broadcaster in Hong Kong.
