“La La Land” became one of the stand-out films of the Academy Awards this year, with its glamorous portrayal of an aspiring actress in Los Angeles — played by Emma Stone — winning six Oscars, including Best Director, but not Best Picture, after raking in 14 Oscar nominations. The movie, a musical that takes inspiration from classics like “Singin’ in the Rain” follows a love story between the rising star who works part-time in a coffee shop on a studio lot and writes her own one-woman show to further her career (Stone) and an ambitious jazz pianist played by Ryan Gosling.
