Market Extra: S&P 500 books best monthly gain in a year

So much for worries about a February selloff.

The S&P 500 SPX, -0.26% on Tuesday managed to post its best monthly gain in about a year, rising 3.7%. That represents its largest monthly advance since March 2016, when the broad-market benchmark gained 6.6%, according to Dow Jones data. The sectors that performed best during the month are health care XLV, -0.20% , technology XLK, -0.48% and financials XLF, -0.04% .

With its February jump and a 1.8% rise in January, the S&P is up 5.9% so far this year.
