The Wall Street Journal: Chinese retaliation over antimissile system has South Korea worried

SEOUL—South Korea fears Beijing is widening its offensive against Seoul’s missile-defense plans to include corporate boycotts, as a report of Chinese retaliation sent shares of South Korean retailers lower.

Citing unnamed sources, the report, Friday by South Korea’s semiofficial Yonhap News Agency said Beijing had urged travel agencies to stop selling tour packages to South Korea.

Fears are growing here that China is orchestrating a campaign to punish South Korea for its plan to deploy the U.S.-built Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense antimissile system, or Thaad. On Thursday, several days after South Korea’s Lotte Group conglomerate approved a land swap that will allow deployment on a company golf course, the website for Lotte’s duty-free shopping website was crippled by a denial-of-service attack, a company spokeswoman said.
