McCain calls on Trump to clarify wire-tapping claim

Sen. John McCain said Sunday that President Donald Trump should either retract or substantiate his claim that he was wiretapped by President Barack Obama during the final weeks of the presidential campaign.

The Arizona Republican’s comments are among the latest high-profile calls for Trump to follow up on a series of March 4 tweets that made such a claim, without evidence. CNN has reported that FBI Director James Comey also pushed back against Trump’s claim. A White House official has said that the President’s comments were triggered by a Breitbart article.

“I have no reason to believe that the charge is true, but I also believe that the President of the United States could clear this up in a minute,” McCain said on CNN’s “State of the Union” program.
