Pulitzer Prize-winning author on ‘Sweat,’ her Broadway play about Trump’s America

Joan Marcus
The three main protagonists of ‘Sweat,’ a play by Lynn Nottage about factory workers in Reading, Pa. Johanna Day (Tracey), Michelle Wilson (Cynthia) and Alison Wright (Jessie).

“Sweat” couldn’t have come at a better or, perhaps, worse time.

The play’s author Lynn Nottage won a Pulitzer Prize in 2009 for “Ruined,” a story about women living in civil war-ravaged Democratic Republic of Congo. She has chosen a different kind of struggle this time and one on American soil. “Sweat” follows a group of women friends who have been working at the same factory in Reading, Pa. since high school, and who all hang out at the same bar.
