Netflix is ramping up its film ambitions as Hollywood fights to protect its turf

Netflix Inc. is behaving more like a film studio nowadays as it continues to invest heavily in its movie business, and Hollywood is struggling to figure out how to react.

The streaming giant has already changed the TV landscape with its binge-able content offering that has encouraged consumers to watch shows when and where they want. Now it is challenging the traditional theatrical release windows that studios rely on to market films and theater owners need to draw an audience.

Theatrical release windows, the period of time before films are available for home video after opening in theaters, have been under threat for years.
