Pepsi faces backlash to ‘tone-deaf’ protest commercial

A new Pepsi commercial featuring Kendall Jenner blew up the internet Tuesday for all the wrong reasons.

The ad juxtaposes scenes of a photo shoot of the reality-TV star/model with a vague street demonstration, which she joins and finally wins the day by offering a police officer a can of Pepsi.

The effort by PepsiCo Inc. PEP, +0.20% to apparently cash in on social activism did not go over well with social activists, some of whom called the ad “tone deaf” and disrespectful in the wake of nationwide protests against police brutality and President Donald Trump.
