The Wall Street Journal: Sprint said to be dropping its 50% discount to switch

Sprint Corp. is dropping one of its most aggressive promotions: a long-running offer to charge half the price of certain rival plans to get customers to switch.

The No. 4 U.S. carrier by subscribers, which sold monthly subscriptions at 50% off those of rivals, will stop offering the discount as soon as this week when it is expected to unveil new wireless pricing plans, according to industry analyst Jeffrey Moore.

Part of the reason Sprint S, +0.12% is ending the offer is because AT&T Inc. T, +0.29% and Verizon Communications Inc. VZ, +0.26% have launched unlimited data plans this year.
