Key Words: Trump says ‘strong dollar’ may be too strong for its own good

That’s the second, and less attention-grabbing (but arguably more revealing), sentence of an answer President Trump gave to a question about the U.S. dollar’s relative strength during a White House interview Wednesday with Wall Street Journal reporters.

The previous sentence of his response found him accepting “blame” for the dollar’s elevated level on the currency market. (“[T]hat’s my fault because people have confidence in me.”)

After his comments about the buck being too strong, the dollar DXY, -0.07%BUXX, -0.07% tumbled Wednesday afternoon, hitting a five-month low against the yen USDJPY, -0.12% .
