Customers rebelled when this savings app rolled out a monthly fee for its services

What should you do when a once-free personal finance app starts charging you?

That’s the question many users of the popular money-saving app Digit are now facing. Last week, the company announced that it would begin charging users a $2.99 fee per month from April 11. Digit is giving users a 100-day free trial to decide whether or not to stay with a service. If a current Digit user closes an account after that time, they will receive a refund if they weren’t aware of the change. “It’s not Digit’s intention to charge people who weren’t aware of the change — they aim to make this as transparent as possible,” a company spokeswoman said.
