ETF Focus: ETF rides March inflows to fresh record level of assets

The ETF industry keeps making new records, and it’s hitting them faster and by bigger margins than ever.

Global assets for exchange-traded products hit a record $3.913 trillion at the end of the first quarter, the latest in a seemingly unending series of such high watermarks, according to research firm ETFGI. The assets represent growth of nearly a third from the $2.944 trillion in global assets at the end of the first quarter of 2016.

ETFGI’s analysis covers all exchange-traded products, which includes both exchange-traded funds and the much smaller category of exchange-traded notes, which has less than $170 billion in assets.
