Capitol Report: House conservative says Trump budget built on ‘lie’ | Republicans to drop debit-rule repeal

President Donald Trump’s 2018 budget plan has gotten plenty of criticism from Democrats, and even some Republicans, one of whom called its assumption of 3% growth “a lie.”

Rep. Mark Sanford of South Carolina made the charge at a hearing with Trump’s budget director Mick Mulvaney, the Washington Post writes, saying: “What it does is it perpetuates a myth that we can go out there and balance a budget without touching entitlements. It’s not only a myth, it’s frankly a lie, and if it gets started at the executive branch level it moves from there.
