Where do you get better deals — Costco or Amazon?

Costco COST, +0.99% and Amazon AMZN, +1.33% may be two totally different types of stores, but the competition between the two is heating up.

“When it comes to activities like shopping, we are bad at valuing our time,” said David Bell, a professor of marketing at The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Shopping in person, however, may prove beneficial for testing out big ticket items like TVs. The two retailers offer different types of memberships. To shop at Costco, you need to be a member for most items, which costs $60 a year; Amazon shoppers can gain access to two-day shipping and other perks for a $99 annual membership fee, but you can obviously shop there without membership.
