British Airways cancels all London flights after IT system failure

Just as the U.K. bank holiday weekend was getting under way on Saturday, passengers were left without flights and in some instances on runways for hours owing to a major computer glitch wreaking havoc for British Airways.

“Following the major IT system failure experienced earlier today, with regret we have had to cancel all flights leaving from Heathrow and Gatwick for the rest of today, Saturday, May 27,” the company said in an updated emailed press statement. Earlier in the day, the airline said it was cancelling flights before 6 p.m. U.K. time (1 p.m. Eastern Time), saying the terminals had become “extremely congested.
