Market Extra: When do markets close for Memorial Day?

U.S. financial markets will be closed on Monday in observance of Memorial Day, to honor the men and women who have lost their lives while serving in the military.

U.S. stock markets, notably the Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, -0.01% and the S&P 500 index DJIA, -0.01% will be closed on Monday but will see regular trading hours on Friday.

However, bond traders may get a jump-start on their holiday. That is because the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association recommends trading for fixed-income securities stop at 2 p.m. Eastern on Friday, and bond markets will remain closed on Memorial Day.
