‘Pirates’ sequel finds box-office gold as ‘Baywatch’ sinks

The latest “Pirates of the Caribbean” sequel cruised to the top spot at the box office in its opening weekend, while the much-hyped “Baywatch” reboot sank.

Walt Disney Co.’s DIS, +1.06% “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” earned $62 million in its first three days, and is on track to take $76.6 million in the U.S. and Canada over the four-day holiday weekend, according to Box Office. While those numbers are the second-lowest for the franchise of sequels, international movie-goers are more than making up for the deficit, with global weekend ticket revenue expected to bring in an additional $208 million.
