The New York Post: Manila casino assault called robbery, not terrorism

A lone gunman sparked panic — and fears of terrorism — in Manila early Friday when he opened fire inside a casino, sending terrified guests and workers fleeing.

But authorities said they suspect it was a robbery attempt, not a terror attack, since the shooter didn’t aim his gun at any gamblers. Police said Friday that the gunman was found dead, though one official said he was killed by police commandoes while another official said he set himself on fire.

“Don’t panic, this is not a cause for alarm. We cannot attribute this to terrorism,” Philippine National Police chief Ronald dela Rosa told DZMM TeleRadyo.
