Market Snapshot: Stock market poised to slip as geopolitical worries sour bulls’ appetite

U.S. stock futures on Tuesday pointed to a small drop at the open, with analysts blaming the modest retreat on a raft of geopolitical worries, including former Federal Bureau of Investigation boss James Comey’s testimony to a Senate panel later this week.

S&P 500 futures ESM7, -0.23% fell by 5.75 points, or 0.2%, to 2,429.00, while Dow Jones Industrial Average futures YMM7, -0.21% shed 42 points, or 0.2%, to 21,134.00. Nasdaq-100 futures NQM7, -0.17% gave up 10.50 points, or 0.2%, to 5,870.50.

Gold futuresGCQ7, +0.94%the Japanese yenUSDJPY, -1.00% and Treasurys TMUBMUSD10Y, -1.91% deemed as safety plays were finding buyers, thanks in part to concerns about a spat between Qatar and other Middle Eastern nations.
