U.K. election: So what is a hung parliament?

It’s looking more likely that the U.K. will face a hung parliament, after exit polls late Thursday found the Conservatives are expected to come up short of a majority in the snap election.

According to the projections, the Conservative Party is in line to win 314 seats. The rival Labour Party is predicted to get 266 seats, followed by the Scottish National Party with 34 and the Liberal Democrats with 14 seats. Later Thursday night, the BBC forecast a slightly better outcome for the Conservatives — 322 seats to Labour’s 261 — but still not enough for a majority
