Instagram is making it easier to figure out when celebrities’ photos are actually ads

Did your favorite celebrity get paid to post their handbag or T-shirt on Instagram? Soon you may know for sure.

The social platform is introducing a new standardized tag on sponsored posts to allow creators and influencers to better inform their followers when they have partnered with a brand. The tag will appear where location tags currently appear under the person’s username. Creators who use the tag will in turn have access to metrics on how many people saw and engaged with their posts.

The tag will say ‘Paid partnership with’ and will enable people who get paid for a post to “maintain authenticity across the board,” Instagram said in its announcement of the feature.
