The price of Whole Foods is 16 times more than Amazon has ever paid for a company

Amazon Inc.’s acquisition of Whole Foods Market Inc. outpaces the value of its next biggest acquisition by a factor of about 16.

Amazon AMZN, +2.44% announced Friday that is was buying Whole FoodsWFM, +29.10% in an all-cash transaction valued at $13.7 billion. Not only is it far bigger than its No. 2 deal by value, for online retailer Zappos.com Inc., but it is bigger than Amazon’s five biggest transactions until now combined by a factor of four, according to FactSet and SEC filings.

The FactSet data pulls the transaction price from the company’s 10-Q filings related to the closing date of the acquisition, rather than the initial press release.
