Beer Goggles: Your beloved ‘local’ beer might be made in another state — or country

Does it matter where your beer comes from?

The U.K. certainly thinks so. Matthew Curtis, editor of London-based beer industry site Total Ales, took to Twitter to point out that Anheuser-Busch InBev’s BUD, +0.30% Goose Island craft brand was making a beer for the United Kingdom, Australia and Mexico. Goose Island’s Midway Session IPA isn’t currently sold in the U.S., and the version that makes it to the U.K. will be brewed by Italy’s Birra Del Borgo, which Anheuser-Busch purchased last year.

Curtis notes that ABI still leans heavily on Goose Island’s Chicago roots and images of its Fulton Street brewery in that city.
