The Margin: Danish family threatened with $375 fine for flying Stars and Stripes

Take down the flag or get fined $375.

That was the message from local police to a Danish family in the town of Kolding in southern Denmark, after they flew Old Glory from a flagpole in their garden, according to Danish news outlet Jydske Vestkysten.

The Hedegård family had been flaunting the Stars and Stripes for about a month, until the doorbell rang Monday morning at 7:15 a.m., with an unexpected visitor on their doorstep: the police.

The law enforcers had received several complaints from passersby that the family was displaying a banned flag in their garden, prompting the police officers to ask the family to take it down.
