Key Words: American Medical Association slams Senate GOP health bill for violating ‘do not harm’ principle ‘on many levels’

One of the biggest criticisms of the U.S. Senate Republican leadership’s Better Care Reconciliation Act comes from the nation’s biggest doctors lobby.

The American Medical Association on Monday wrote a letter to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) saying the draft legislation violates doctors’ precept of “first, do no harm,” according to the letter, signed by Executive Vice President and CEO James Madara, and would do so “on many levels.”

‘Medicine has long operated under the precept of Primum non nocere, or ‘first, do no harm.’ The draft legislation violates that standard on many levels.
