When you should (and shouldn’t) text your financial adviser

Now is a good time to use those money-related emojis on your phone: Your financial adviser wants to text you.

The financial firm Morgan Stanley MS, +0.23% made headlines this month when it announced it would allow its advisers to text with their clients using the secure texting platform Twilio. Morgan Stanley debuted the service in early June with several hundred advisers, and is gradually rolling it out nationwide.

Other firms and individual advisers have already been texting with clients. The firm Edward Jones began rolling out its own system in late 2015. Of the 14,500 advisers in the U.S.
