Spotify may have wider appeal than Netflix, analysts say

Spotify AB may have even wider appeal than Netflix Inc., according to MKM Partners analysts.

That appeal, as evidenced by the company’s subscriber growth, is particularly important as the music-streaming service reportedly gears up to go public later this year. If the growth continues and the company is able to trim content costs, MKM analysts expect $35 billion market capitalization in four years.

Spotify, a Luxembourg-based company, recently released its financials from 2016 and reported additions of 20 million paying subscribers — more than the 18 million people video-streaming company Netflix NFLX, -0.06% added in its “best year,” according to Rob Sanderson, lead analyst on the report.
