The Margin: Flying Old Glory on July the Fourth? In Denmark, that could get you a $375 fine

Take down the flag or get fined $375.

That was the message from local police to a Danish family in the town of Kolding in southern Denmark, after they flew Old Glory from a flagpole in their garden, according to Danish news outlet Jydske Vestkysten.

The Hedegård family had been flying the Stars and Stripes for about a month, until the doorbell rang one Monday at 7:15 a.m., with unexpected visitors on the doorstep: the police.

The cops had received several complaints from passersby that the family was displaying a banned flag in their garden, prompting the police officers to ask them to take it down.
