Federal ethics director who clashed with Trump administration quits

Walter Shaub Jr., director of the Office of Government Ethics, is resigning.

The federal ethics director who clashed with both President Donald Trump and his administration quit on Thursday.

Walter Shaub Jr., director of the Office of Government Ethics, said he’ll resign later this month. In his resignation letter — which made no mention of the current White House occupant — he italicized a sentence that the OGE staff is committed to protecting the principle that “public service is a public trust.”

In an interview with the Washington Post, Shaub said he wasn’t pressured by anyone to leave but felt he had reached the limit of what he can accomplish under current rules.
