The Wall Street Journal: Three major California wildfires spread amid record heat wave

Three large California wildfires spread quickly over the weekend, burning tens of thousands of acres and forcing evacuations of campgrounds, roads, and hundreds of homes across the state.

As of Sunday afternoon, the three fires — two north of Santa Barbara on the edge of Los Padres National Forest, and one north of Sacramento — were still blazing and defying efforts to contain them, state officials said.

The three were among more than a dozen fires reported by state officials over the weekend, as parts of California were hit with record-breaking heat. More than 5,000 firefighters were dispatched across the state on Sunday, according to the California Department of Forestry & Fire Protection, or Cal Fire.
