Seven years, 62 votes, endless hours of verbal bashing. Yet once Republicans had the stage all to themselves, what did they do? They choked. They forgot their lines.

It’s fair to say that the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, has been the bane of Republicans’ existence ever since it was enacted in 2010. They took every opportunity — and created ones when none existed — to bash the eponymous law. They ran on a promise to repeal it on Day 1. They highlighted its every failure, including the increases in premiums and deductibles and the exodus of insurance companies from the Obamacare exchanges.
