The Wall Street Journal: Sen. John McCain diagnosed with brain cancer

WASHINGTON — Sen. John McCain (R., Ariz.), who has been out this week recovering from surgery, has been diagnosed with a type of brain cancer, his office disclosed on Wednesday. His office said his return to the Senate will depend upon further consultations with his medical team.

McCain had surgery last Friday to remove a blood clot above his left eye following a physical at the Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix. The hospital said that subsequent tests revealed that a glioblastoma, a type of brain tumor, was associated with the blood clot.

“The Senator and his family are reviewing further treatment options with his Mayo Clinic Care team,” the hospital said in a statement distributed by McCain’s office.
