What Donald Trump’s battle of wills with Jeff Sessions teaches you about a difficult boss

President Donald Trump seems to be signaling — in interviews and on Twitter — that he wants to get rid of Attorney General Jeff Sessions. Trump said on Tuesday he is “disappointed” in Sessions for recusing himself from the Russia investigation. “We will see what happens,” Trump said. “Time will tell.” Their debacle is playing out on a national stage, but plenty of employees can identify with the stress of having a boss who wants you gone.

Few bosses have a public forum such as a Twitter TWTR, -1.80% following of millions, but many shame their employees in other ways, including trash-talking the employee to their peers, telling an employee not to attend certain meetings any more, or moving them to a remote office, said Kenneth Siegel, the president of The Impact Group, a management consultancy based in Los Angeles.
