The Wall Street Journal: Venezuela says it puts down revolt at army base

Venezuela said it quashed an attack on an army base Sunday apparently carried out by dissident government soldiers, a week after the government of embattled President Nicolás Maduro moved forward with plans to draft a new constitution.

Army chief Gen. Jesus Suarez said the Paramacay artillery base in the country’s third-largest city of Valencia was under government control by late Sunday morning after what he described as “a paramilitary incursion.”

“The scoundrels have been defeated,” Suarez said in a video. The general said he was speaking from the artillery base in the video, which was released by the ruling-party governor of the surrounding state of Carabobo.
