Darrell Delamaide’s Political Capital: Republicans’ shadow campaign for 2020 doesn’t inspire

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — The sky is the limit — for the ambition if not for the talent of this country’s professional politicians and their inflated egos.

Earlier this year, insider publication The Hill drew up a list of more than three dozen potential contenders for the open Democratic nomination for president in 2020.

Now the New York Times has now come up with a similar list of Republican wannabes, albeit much shorter, in what the paper terms a “shadow campaign” for president — even though there will be a Republican incumbent. The list may grow longer, the Times says, if the party loses a lot of ground in next year’s midterm elections.
