The Wall Street Journal: Islamic State takes credit for deadly Barcelona attack on pedestrians

BARCELONA — A van driven by a terrorist mowed down pedestrians in the heart of Spain’s second-largest city on Thursday, killing at least 13 people in an attack claimed by Islamic State.

More than 100 others were injured, many so severely that the death toll could rise, according to Joaquim Forn, the Catalan region’s interior minister. Investigators are probing whether the plotters of the attack originally intended to detonate one or more car bombs in Barcelona, according to a police official. In the early hours of Friday morning, police said they killed four alleged terrorists and wounded another in Cambrils, a town southwest of Barcelona.
